Sustainability
At Dagigi, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As a small business, we believe it’s possible to create stylish, high-quality products while making a positive impact on the environment. That’s why we’re proud to promote circular fashion, an approach that aims to minimize waste and extend the lifecycle of materials, by partnering with Aquafil and using their innovative product Econyl®—a recycled nylon that embodies the future of sustainable textiles.
What Is Circular Fashion?
Circular fashion is a holistic approach to design, production, and consumption that seeks to close the loop in the fashion industry. Instead of relying on virgin materials and allowing clothing to end up in landfills after its use, circular fashion focuses on reusing, recycling, and regenerating materials to reduce environmental impact. It moves away from the traditional linear model of "take, make, dispose" and embraces a circular system where materials are continually repurposed. This reduces the need for new resources and minimizes waste.
The Role of Econyl® in Circular Fashion
At Dagigi, we’ve chosen to work with Aquafil, a global leader in sustainable innovation, to source Econyl®, a breakthrough material in the realm of circular fashion. Econyl® is a form of regenerated nylon made from waste products like old fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastic. Through an advanced chemical process known as depolymerization, these waste materials are broken down into their basic components and transformed into new nylon that is identical in quality to virgin nylon.
This process is not only a brilliant example of circularity, but it also has a significant environmental impact. According to scientific studies from Aquafil, for every 10,000 tons of Econyl® produced, we save approximately 70,000 barrels of crude oil and avoid 57,100 tons of CO2 emissions, compared to virgin nylon production. This reduction in both resource consumption and emissions directly contributes to a more sustainable planet.
How We Use Econyl®
We specifically use Econyl® to make the yarn for the outer crochet layer of our bikinis. This yarn is soft, durable, and as versatile as conventional nylon, but with a much lower environmental footprint. By incorporating Econyl® into our designs, we’re not only ensuring that our bikinis look and feel amazing, but we’re also supporting a circular system where waste is transformed into something new and valuable.
The closed-loop system behind Econyl® ensures that once the life cycle of your bikini ends, it can be recycled back into nylon again, creating an ongoing cycle of reuse. This process helps to keep plastic waste out of our oceans and landfills, making Econyl® one of the most sustainable materials available for swimwear and fashion.
Why Circular Fashion Matters
Fashion is one of the most resource-intensive industries in the world, with the textile sector alone responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions and producing 92 million tons of waste each year. By choosing to promote circular fashion, we’re doing our part to reduce the environmental harm caused by fast fashion and traditional production methods.
Econyl® allows us to design our bikinis with the environment in mind, and it provides a powerful solution to the environmental challenges that the fashion industry faces. Through circular fashion, we’re reducing our dependence on non-renewable resources, minimizing waste, and encouraging a more sustainable relationship between fashion and the planet.
Our Vision for the Future
Dagigi’s goal is not just to create beautiful bikinis but to inspire meaningful change in the fashion industry. We believe that every small step counts, and by using Econyl® and promoting circular fashion, we are contributing to a more responsible, environmentally friendly future. We encourage our customers to join us on this journey—by choosing sustainable options like Econyl® swimwear, they’re supporting a cleaner planet and a brighter future for generations to come.
Together for a Sustainable Tomorrow
Sustainability is not just a trend; it’s a necessity for the future of fashion and the planet. By collaborating with Aquafil and incorporating Econyl® into our designs, we’re proving that it’s possible to create luxurious, stylish swimwear without compromising on environmental responsibility. Circular fashion is the way forward, and we’re committed to leading by example, one bikini at a time.
